Janusz A. Kuzma

Founder and CEO

Janusz A. Kuzma , biomedical engineer, has over 30 years experience in the design and manufacture of active neurostimulation devices. His main area of expertise is in the technology of cochlear implants. During his long career at Cochlear Corporation, Advanced Bionics and Oculeve Inc he designed seven generations of cochlear implants from which four models were commercialized. He is the author of over two hundred international patents. His design concept of titanium hermetic housing with external flexible telemetry coil became an industry standard adopted by all current manufacturers. During the last ten years he was running independent consulting services including Second Sound Pty Ltd.

Ed Overstreet Phd

Associate

Director of Scientific, Regulatory and Marketing Consultancy LLC. Dr. Overstreet has been involved with hearing research since 1991. His doctoral work relied on the assessment of basilar-membrane mechanics and acoustically evoked cochlear potentials to characterize the development of the mammalian auditory system. He has extensive experience working in highly regulated environments driving projects to completion in both industry and academia. He has served on the executive board of the American Auditory Society, been a leading patent producer in applications related to neurostimulation and has numerous publications. In addition, he contributed to development of the FDA Guidance Documents for Cochlear Implants in conjunction with the AAMI. As a founding member of Second Sound, he continues to work towards furthering the state of the art in hearing healthcare.

Lani A. Smith

Industrial designer and office manager

Lani A. Smith has over twenty years experience in cochler implant manufacturing from her work at Cochlear P/L and Advanced Bionics. She has made significant contibutions to the design of external systems for cochlear devices.

CONSULTING

Our objective is to provide effective assistance to business identities interested in entering the lucrative but very challenging field of cochlear implants or similar neurostimulation products. A few decades of experience in this field has equipped us with a vast understanding of key technological issues which newcomers would face. We have collected a substantial portfolio of our own new propretiary techniques which enable us to address the most challenging technical issues. We can provide novel competitive designs and necessary know-how, helping new products to become reality in an economical and timely manner. The following main areas of know-how are immediately available for licensing: 1. Miniature, multi-output, hermetic implantable electronic housing with up to 24 independent outputs. 2. Range of multichannel intracochlear and extracochlear electrodes. This technology can be adapted to other types of electrodes. At this stage, we can produce up to 24-channel electrodes. 3. Customized surgical tools for implantation and electrode placement. Immediately available for license, our technology consists of: a) Limited number of prototypes of the housing and electrodes. Both are suitable for engineering and clinical evaluation. d) Set of startup tools, fixtures and equipment. e) Limited quantity of essential components (feedthroughs, Titanium and Pt/Ir parts).
